What about abilities that are worded like "when you make a weapon attack.", such as various Cleric Domains' Divine Strike abilities? Isn't "melee weapon attack" just a subset of "weapon attack," so RAW anything that is a melee weapon attack must also be a weapon attack? This particular question seems to me to be the most debatable - there are some abilities that appear to be clearly intended specifically for weapons, Divine Strike specifically says ".infuse your weapon strikes.", yet I don't see anything OP about allowing them for unarmed strikes. Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use an unarmed strike: a punch, kick, head-butt, or similar forceful blow (none of which count as weapons).It reads to me like an unarmed strike is a special case of melee weapon attack in which a non-weapon is used in the attack and would thus qualify for abilities that are used in conjunction with melee weapon attacks.
